Meeting with CUHAS Vice Chancellor

On Friday, the University of Calgary team was kindly welcomed to a meeting with Prof. Paschalis Rugarabamu, Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Allied Health Sciences (CUHAS), to discuss how the psychiatry curriculum has been progressing thus far and future directions for our partnership.

Mood Disorders Small Group

We need to understand that all psychiatric conditions are medical conditions. Psychiatry is just a specialization of medical illnesses.

The MD5s continued to impress when leading a small group related to Mood Disorders with the MD3 students on Friday. The cases were related to patients presenting with a depressive or manic episode, ruling out other medical causes of such symptoms, and treating according to the biopsychosocial model. Fifteen groups of approximately fifteen MD3 students are in each group with two MD5 student leaders.

Review Lecture

Dr. Kathy Fitch led the MD3 students through an interactive review lecture that summarized answers received from an anonymous question box throughout the first week of psychiatry content. The MD3 students are beginning to feel more comfortable with the content and have begun actively engaging in this style of learning.
