Kolabo 2025: Day Four Blog
Labour Day in Tanzania – A Day of Exploration & Connection 🇹🇿
May 1st is a national public holiday in Tanzania — Worker’s Day, also known as Labour Day. This holiday is dedicated to honouring the contributions of workers across the country. With no scheduled sessions at CUHAS, we embraced the opportunity to explore the local area and spend meaningful time with Dr. Mwita and Dr. Doreen.
Adventure to Saanane Island National Park 🏝️
Our destination was Saanane Island National Park — the smallest national park in Tanzania, and a true hidden gem just a short boat ride from Mwanza.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by lush greenery, panoramic lake views, and an experienced guide who walked us through the rich history and ecology of the island. Along the way, we spotted impala, monkeys, wildebeest, tortoises, and an impressive variety of birds and lizards freely roaming the island.
The hike offered not only scenic views but also space for reflection and connection. It reminded us of that the heart of Kolabo is to be a sustainable, equitable global health partnership rooted in mutual learning, capacity building, and long-term collaboration.
